More I/O pins

The SAM 15x15 has more I/O pins than the Arduino Zero or SAMD21 Mini/Dev Breakout: 34 instead of 21, you clearly can see the difference in size:

Assembling

The SAM 15x15 has to be connected to the adapter board by the use of the 1.27mm pitch headers. Soldering all the connector pins is a lot of work, so I recommend soldering only the pins that are required, and also some pins to hold the headers. In any case, solder pin 3 (GNDA), 4 (3.3V), 34 (reset) and 36 (GND).

The 4 pins on the vertices can’t be connected with the header, you better leave these unused. But if you need them, use single header pins here:

The reset switch and the micro USB B connector are not necessarily needed. If you want to use the micro USB B connector, you need to mount bridge 1 and bridge 2 according to the image:

How to solder a SMD micro USB B connector

You can’t solder the micro USB B connector with a soldering iron, it must be done with a heat gun:

  • Apply solder tin on the pads.
  • Apply no-clean flux.
  • Place the USB connector exactly.
  • Heat now with a heat gun until the soldering is done well. Don’t care about the heat, the USB connector is heat resistant.
  • Check the result with an eye loupe 10x magnifier.
